The Woes of Battle-Comms, Fleet Listening, and Corporate Communication…

Over the last month running with Si Radio, Noir, Agony, and Northern Coalition fleets, there has been much debate over the following subjects, Battle Communication, Fleet Attention and Listening, and Corporate Communication. It boils down to either not knowing, not paying attention, not listening, pick 3, and then the lack there of a proper discussed tactic or means of passing a long information. Battle Communications were touched on in my Agony-Basic class I took a last week, and then after being in some massive fleet movements and events, I have come to realize the following:

1) Battle Communications is everything, but more importantly, the style in which Battle-comms are handled: Some people love it quiet and some people love to talk. It really boils down to who you are with and what you are doing. I know several friends who gang daily for 3 to 5 vs. 1 to 5, they do have a designated FC, but they talk constantly, due to all being friends and are able to shut up when they need to because the “Know” how things are going to be. They “trust” in the FC’s abilities. This style of communication never works out for mid to large size fleets. Anything more then maybe 7 people may get to be too much to handle.

2) If you didn’t hear an order, or do not know what to do, wait a moment, do not act: Eve is the game full of accents. You may not understand your FC 100% of the time, you may not know what you are doing 100% of the time, but you should at least know this, If you do not know what the FC said do not do anything, wait a moment, and then re-act off instinct. If he said jump and you didn’t understand or didn’t realize it was the FC, hold for a moment, see what everyone else does and then react as soon as possible.

3) Listen to your FC: The only person in your fleet who should be giving Verbal orders is your Fleet Commander. No one should ever use the word JUMP except for your fleet commander. People who need to say something, like I am “So and So jumps out, where are you at?” should not be asking that in open comms, but if they find the dire need to say something like that, people need to realize that and not say jump, use another term gates. This is a topic that Agony went over some within the class. I highly recommend it to newbie pvpers. Also, the only other people who should really be talking in vent is FC, RECON/Scouts, FC Assistants. There are some FCs who do not read fleet chat, this generally should be the job of the FC Assistants/Fleet XO. If you have no fleet xo who is relaying messages between the FC and the fleet chat, then some FC’s ask you call out if something “IMPORTANT” needs to happen or be made known. Before you shout out your “Important” statement, please ask yourself first, does it affect the fleet as a whole, knowing the size of your fleet? Do you needing to afk for 45 seconds to use the restroom or go grab the phone really that important? 90% of the time you’re just a lemming and you do not affect the overall fleet. Now I know this doesn’t really apply to a small gang, as most small gangs need every member. But in larger fleets 15+, and you’re just a pewpew’er. Then there probably isn’t a huge reason for you to call it out over comms. Now if you are a scout, major role player in the fleet, one of the few logi or ewar pilots, then your statement may be important enough, because you might affect the fleet as a whole.

4) Key Communication Phrases: Before doing any major fleet movements or gang movements, make sure your members are all on the same page. Generally in larger fleets you either picked up the basics of their communication early on, or need to pick it up over time by fleeting, and not jumping the gun when commands are given. But in small gang, make sure everyone that is flying with you as the FC, known how you like communication to roll. Some key things to make note of; what terms will be used by the Recon/Scouts to relay details. Agony gave us a good example of how they did it over TS:

Recon Pilot> FC Recon (or Break Break/Check Check)
FC> Go for Recon
Recon Pilot> This is So and So, I am in AY-G, and I currently have a Rapier and Sleipnir on the AY Gate to AZ Gate, Nothing on scan, Local shows 4 other hostiles, no visual.

The above is an example of the type of Recon format I personally like. It provides the Who, What, Where, and How many, which is key for allowing the FC to get the fleet on target, or move on the defensive. Now the terms “Break Break” or “Check Check”, these are terms I have heard been used in fleets so far. These terms to me should generally be used when needing to do a flash alert to everyone that needs immediate attention. For example:

So and So Recon Pilot> ……
FC> Thanks So and So.
DSPer1> Check Check
DSPer1> I have Local +5 hostiles 4 Vaga , 1 Scimitar.
FC> …..

The above example is something you may run into, hopefully the timeliness and the reaction are good, but it’s an example of how the term was used. It is good to separate the terms apart from so you know when a term is used what usually going to come after that being said. Also the above example would generally tend to come from the person put in charge of D Scan/Local watch depending on structured your fleets are.
There are some other terms I would really like to discuss like SCRAM, WEB, POINT, PAINT, JAMMED, and a few others, but I will save that for another post.

5) And finally General Corporate Communication; It is there fucking use it! : What I mean by this, is that there are so many ways for a corp and alliance to communicate, Voice-Comms, Intel Channels, Mail-Lists, Calendars, Forums, and Websites to name a few. People need to understand this and people need to use them. To some people internetz spaceships are serious business, and to some it’s just a game, to me it’s a hobby, I invest and indulge in it. My biggest peeve about corporations that the corporation does not communicate, my last few corporations tended to communicate decently… some did it better than others. But O M G, if anything you should never hear, when is the next op, are there any fleets up, do we have any sigs, whats the status of so and so system. Generally you get this in response, It’s in the Fleet intel channel, it’s also in fleet finder, or get on the intel channel and find out. Once corporation I was in even used mail-list for sig announcements, it was a great idea, if people used it. I myself was guility of not using it, but after my few days in Mostly Harmless, I see the greater need to communication, as these guys have shit posted in 8 different spots, which is amazing amount of communication, plus all the other super secret stuff they use to pass along alerts to fleet members, even not in game.
Anyhow, that’s enough of my rambling. Enjoy and don’t jump into the EC without using intel, because you will most likely get killed by someone.

More recent updates and the Pure Blind Purge…

Over the last few weeks I have been getting accustomed to my new home in the Northern Coalition. Most of the region I will be in will most likely be Fade and Branch area. Living in the Mostly Harmless area has been quite a treat. Never in my life have I imagined the type of Infrastructure a large alliance has at its disposal. Within a matter of minutes I can move from the West side of coalition space to the east side. I was amazed to see and use the Jump Bridge networks and Cyno Generators, which made my jump freighter, runs much shorter in terms of time, spent looking and position a cyno alt.

But like I always do, I’ll give it sometime and see how things go. I’m not sure my choice to run with Paxton will be a good one or a bad one at this time. I fought against Paxton down in Providence when Si Radio was moving in. Hopefully things work out and nothing goes a way that will drive me to leave. Strict is ok to a point, then some people really need to get over themselves. On a side note, my corporate management alt is now Sov 1 having completed Empire Control V yesterday.

The last 72 hours have been very hectic, I was able to get all my stuff moved to Torrinos for the hauls out into space, but right off the back we were mobilized for an all weekend affair. The movement to purge pure blind of all those invaders that moved in during the NC vs SC war was being executed in quick order. With huge amounts of members being fielded in several maxed out fleets, we went through and bashed POS’s and IHUBs, and a Station or 2, until the task was completed. Over 30+ POS’s fell to likes I have never seen before. Large monstrous ships, which I dreamed of seeing, were seen. The immense size of these fleets was jaw dropping. Never before have I seen so much activity, especially during summer.

I was also able to take part in some pretty fun Gate camps, using my HIC Pilot. These were pretty fun while we had things to kill, it was almost like a capture the flag game. The flag being the Gate we were camping. We would have 5 to 8 blues on grid, and then drop a small neut gang, and then later a 15+ red gang would come in run us off. The red gang would take the gate, then a 15+ neut gang would come in and run the reds off, then we would return with 30+ ships and take the gate back. The control of said gate is a high strategic point for us to hold. The majority of the time, it is held by us, and it serves us right to hold it.

Moving on … again … part 2

A month and a handful of days have passed since i joined Si Radio, but i decided it was time to move on, once again. The several people who were on (which was about 4 people after subtracting my 6 alts, and 4 other alts) that i cared about, were informed that i was choosing to leave, some disappointed with me leaving. I shot off an email to QP, who is/was sick at the time and offline, and removed myself and my 6 alts from the corporation.

Having my mini-armada undocking for Mista consisting of 1 Rhea, 1 Fenrir, 1 Charon, 1 Orca, 2 Tengus, and a Megathron, and set my sights back on the Caldari State with the destination of Motsu once again. Motsu has been my high-sec home since i have been doing level 4 and 5 missions, and i opted to return there once again to get my bearings and determine what my next objective would be.

While talking to some old friends and some new friends down in Providence, i decided that i really have 2 to 3 options. The first, going back into a Class 3 WH to do my labs and t3 salvage farming for a few months to finish up my BPO Library research (BPO Library is currently over 500 prints including almost every t1 rig and equipment print and ncluding every ship from indy to frigates up to Battlecruisers for all of the 4 factions.). The second options, which currently is high in my want to do list, is get into a PVP Corp/Pirate Corp that is US TZ based, ill explain this later on. The third option is to move to either amarr or minmatar space and do another races standings up to level 4 missions, while trying to increase my faction standing up to install a highsec lab POS somewhere.

Alrighty, so as im typing this a friend IM’d wanting to know why i left Si Radio. There really was not any particular one thing. I knew it would possible be an issue of activity due to the corp being primarily GMT based, but the US TZ guys were great, or at least the ones were that i got a long with, but like all my trends in this game i play from the time i get off work to the time i go to bed, most days. With that kind of activity level, i need a very active primetime US group, and Si Radio, being some of the best guys i have gamed with to date, in any game, Si Radio was not setup to cater to my needs as a very active US TZ player. It took me 3 days and about 12 round trip jumps to get my stuff out, and other corp mates stuff in. I will hope to still keep good relations with Si Radio, as i enjoyed fleeting with them for PVE and PVP especially the days that i was able to fly with the Noir. guys and girls in our WH ganks.

I currently feel im in the pvp cycle of my eve-life. Its to the point were i thirst to kill something/someone, but i currently lack the experience and know-how. I attempted to gain some incite to pvp’ing through Si Radio, but we at that point were all in the same stage in terms of learning to pvp, minus a few of the corp mates who were somewhat more experience, and attempting to get better on their own. I am a very structured person, and like to know the in’s and out’s with anything i do. I want to know the thought process behind FCs decision (after the fact of course, definitely not during an OP), i want to know how the vent/ts-comms work and how other people do it. I am an analyst in my field of work. I try to make things more streamlined and efficient. I have been attempting to get in on the Agony classes, but they fill-up fast.

..To my luck i was just checking the Agony classes for this coming month, and to my amazement the classes are coming very soon. The sign-ups start tomorrow, which i will definetly be watching closely over the next 48 hours to get in on one of their classes.

I close out todays post with a WTF M8!!!!
Have fun and fly dangerous!

Once upon a post, a long time ago…

Like the title refers to, it definitely has been a bit since my last post. I have been quite busy of the last month since moving to Providence to spend time with Si Radio with Noir space. On a quick note, Mynxee is now our CSM Chair holder, and my army of votes hopefully helped out some, but she was well ahead of the rest.

As the banner image states, -A- will be resetting standings today. What does this mean to Si Radio? What does his mean to the pocket we live out of? What are the expectations to come?

Over the last month I have been busy getting ships and gear moved down to my providence home. I have more then 20+ ships ranging from T1 frigates up to Black Ops ships + a few jump freighters full of mods and gear to equipment them with, but then again that is to be used by army of toons. But anyhow, also within this month of moving and gearing up, we have been getting frequently visited by Agony, Havoc (-A-), Paxton Federation, and CVA/VVA.  With Havoc and CVA coming almost daily, around a specific pattern of times :-P . Over the last few weeks I have taken the Initiative to track all AAA and CVA fleets moving about the providence space around my home. My current Intel spreadsheet has over 400+ lines of notes and assumptions. Some of these assumptions are wrong, some have proven to be wrong, but surprisingly after testing some scenarios against the notes and seeing a reaction, I have verified that my assumptions are correct for more than half of them. This will be very useful for me when running recon and tacs.

Back to the AAA standing reset, as the attached image states that AAA will be resetting standing for all people except for the select few, which is good and bad, good for the fact that we can now engage them with the full force of the pocket to defend ourselves, instead of having to always hide. I personally wish I could get my pockets industrial index up to 1 or 2 for a little bit at least to get more out of it, but with all the constant roams into our pocket that has proven useless, which technically is not a bad thing, but a bit frustrating, and expected of course.

What the reset means for Si Radio; It means absolutely nothing, as we may be blue to Noir, we are blue to very few of their friends. I expected Makalu and Jessba + company, to make more frequent trips to the LSS hunting grounds which Noir has provided the area with. Only more time will tell and hopefully it will tell us everything.

Good Luck to all of the LSS members and Providence inhalants in their small gang warfare.

Few Quick Updates, CSM Vote, and a WTF!!

I do apologize for the lack of posting as i really want to, and it had nothing to do with the amount of time or interest, but more along the lines of interesting things to discuss. Up until today my Eve life has been pretty bland. But now its getting way more interesting. *Loads a Shotgun*

Recent Updates and Changes:
1st Update: I started slowly playing WoW again, a week ago, but this was part of my plan before coming back to EVE, that i would start WoW backup on a small scale to achieve my 100K gold before the expansion comes out and to beta test as i usually do each expansion. I reactivated all 5 of my accounts. More on this later in a post…

2nd Update: I have added more of my favorite and daily read blogs to my blog list.

3rd Update: The blogs graphics will be changing to accompany slight changes to my additional gaming, as this will still primarily be EVE related, you may see some WoW, SW, FFXIV, and any other interesting games show up on here, but rarely.

4th Update: I achieved a milestone for myself by joining  the Providence Bandwagon, flying along side the great team that is forming up within SiRadio!! GO  SiRADIO!!!!! Only 1/5th of my stuff has been moved to, but still looking to move the rest of it. Im currenlty in dire need of a JF toon, i may actually looking to pickup a JF toon, soon, but my own toons will be JF capable in the next month.

5th Update: CSM Voting going on Now! I Cirocke command all of my readers to vote for Mynxee Go Go!!!! [ VOTE ]

6th WTF Update: My poor Tengu got blasted by CVA/VVA/PXF, good job for them, its the first and last free kill they get on me. *waves bye bye to 530mil isk ship, with a fail fit at the time*

Whats in your hanger?

Reading through all my blogs, and starting to see more and more blogger’s ships collected, i decided to chip in some of my choices that i use across a few of my toons.  I believe i original saw it on EVEOGANDA: What’s in your hanger? by Rixx Javix ..

What’s in your hanger?

I was thinking about ship names this morning.  I think it is something that generally seems to be overlooked as it has no real bearing on the game at all, but I find the process of naming my ships to be interesting.  Sometimes I go for stupid or silly, sometimes I’ve had themes (For awhile last year all my ships had the word “lizard” in them somewhere, I don’t know why) and sometimes they’re just what they are with no real thought given to them….

So this post has two parts and I’d love to hear from everyone on this.  What do you do when naming your ships?  Is it something you take seriously, naming them after ships in science fiction movies?  Like Nostromo or others.  Or famous science fiction writers?  I’ve done that one myself, The Asimov, The Bradbury, etc.  And why did you choose the names you choose?

The second question is what is in your hanger right now?  I’ll start it off by telling you what is in mine at the moment.

There many blogs on this topic at other sites out there in the Eve-Blogroll maintained by CrazyKinux, but to list only a few from the blogs i regularly read.

Ships of a noob by Cyberin @ Hands off, My Loot!

What’s In Your Hangar? by 00sage00 @ Yarrbear Tales

What’s in my Hanger? by Casiella Truza @ Ecliptic Rift

So now on with the show. Disclaimer, the below ship list is a snippet of ships i use regular for carebear. For your protection, i mean my satisfaction, you will most likely not see me in any of these ships when im in pvp mode.

What do you do when naming your ships?

I almost spin a wheel on the names til i can come up with i like. I can regularly change my ships names maybe several times a day for a few days straight til it settles on its last name forever. I generally i try to make them mean something to me, or make the name remind me of something funny in my endeavors. But, most of the time i threw several names at a wall and picked one randomly.

As for whats in my hanger right now?

Tengu x 3; ‘Locust’, ‘Improved Locust’, ‘Locust’s Suck’. Do not ask why i think i was stupid drunk when i named these.

Proteus; ‘Maximus’, this name together reminded me of gladiator so the name went together as Proteus Maximus. I know right stupid. yeah.

Loki; ‘The Lokinator’, again i think i was drunk when i named this one, isn’t capsuleering fun when your  just that much more drunk then the last.

Fenrir; ‘SpaceCow’, original this big craft was named the ‘Sandcrawler Ultimo,’ but i debated on this name for a few days and it landed on SpaceCow, for its slow moving large size. I was very torn on this one, let me tell ya! LOL

Drake x 4; ‘Drakes and more’, yes they are all named the same. I couldn’t tell you why if i tried really hard, and was sober.

Buzzard; ‘ICU PingPong’, this being one of my more favorite ships, i spend a lot of time with the pilot of this ship, until i get her into a Recon here within the month. Named for the fact that i like to stalk people around null-sec, and when i happen to de-cloak on a gate, ill move to another gate and de-cloak, and watch people jump back and forth trying to see if they can catch me. Its quite fun, you should really try it.

Manitcore; ‘GlassCannon VI’, so truly named for the increment in how many i lost warping to gates i knew i should ofused a alternate jump point.

Orca; ‘Caprica’ or ‘Shamoo’, these 2 names i switch to and from for the Orca, the use of the name caprica reminds of Battlestar Galatica and the large ships, since it was the first large ship i owned. Need i explain Shamoo? I do not even know if i spelled the name right either.

Well there you have it, just a few of my more commonly used ships. Fly safe and til next time!

Day 11: Mistakes that cost and how to move on…PVP

What you never wish to see…

and that was just the second ship.

Over the last 2 weeks roughly, i have living the life of a wormhole colonist. I was enjoying it til the fact i had to move everything back to high-sec for two reason. One, was the fact that i needed to unload a vast amount of sleeper loot (which didn’t make it) and ore (which made it), and the second reason, was the fact that my wormhole corporation was officially relocating out of the C3 we were in, back to empire for a week or so, in hopes of finding a C4 or another C3 with a somewhat better static setup inside of it.

So what all happened you ask? Well lets start off with 2 ignorant mistakes that are entirely my fault. The first was the lose of my Proteus doing c3 Radar site, and not paying attention. I had my 2 Tengu’s in there already moving fast and furious. I flew my Proteus into the fray to do long range sniping to speed up the clearing of this last site before i moved out of the hole, but luck was not on my side. People coming on vent asking me about this and that, i alt-tabbed to another window, and back, only being gone for less then 30 seconds to see my Proteus get targeted and severly gang raped by sleepers. My first thought was i forgot to put him into motion, to get some of his velocity and trans-velocity going. The second thought was i forgot to activate his burner and hardeners. The third thought was “i am an idiot sometimes.” When it exploded i start laughing, and laughing hard. The new recruit on vent thought i was crazy for losing such an expensive ship. I accepted the loss before it happened knowing full and well i had backup money to replace each shipsi brought 2 times over, and not including the free loot i get to sell which would cover the cost of its replacement plus a  little extra. From this point, i sadly filled up my Orca and prowler and set off on the task of scoping out an exit strategy and executing it.

And onto the second loss of my very woeful day. To make a very long and drawn out story short. Our current C3 has a static null-sec which was currently in middle of “no where”, 35+ jumps away from highsec through 2 major gate camp areas leading into The Citadel area. I was able to scan down another hole, load the grid and entered into a C2 which was currently occupied by a UK group, and seemingly sound asleep, with the frosting to the flavor of a static high-sec hole. I packed up my orca and prowler and shot across the c2 to a high-sec that let out near Derelict. I thought it was smooth sailing from there. Little did i know, i made a huge mistake by not transferring my sleeper goods from the cloakie-transport to my orca for the AFK haul. This was made apparent when i heard the alert of no shields and armor screaming across my speakers while i was prepping a pos fuel shopping list in another screen. Within a matter of seconds, the act that i believed would never happen to me happened. All i was thinking at this point was “Welcome to Eve nOObie!,” and i was ganked in a 0.6 sector between Amarr and Caldari space. To much amazement i started laughing again, but then i start crying inside as my fortune starts to dwindle down with each loss by a mistake, that i knew i should never do, which was “AFK Hauling phat lewtz!”

As the guys over ventrilo started to talk about how pissed the would be and having the urge to throw a keyboard or hit something, all i could think of was laughing, and so i did….with a dash of inside crying. I was definitely a sad panda that day.

Day 1: In the Wake of a War..

Today marks my first day in my new corporation. I believe this new corp will be a very fun experience as the first 36 hours have been somewhat interesting to say the least. Maybe this corp will become what i hope it could be.

First and foremost, i am currently playing my CovOps/Prober as my main this week, due events i will cover in this blog. A quick back history lesson on what i have been up-to, which has not been much by any means, but trying to find a corporation is horrendous in EVE. I do not have that much pvp experience only having a few kills to my lifetime within the game, but eventually i will be experienced enough. I had high hopes in trying to apply Noir/Noir Academy, but they are not currently recruiting. However i am still a newbie compared to them and my kill history is definitely not spot on yet. Some of more notable kills were subduing a RR BS team with my own fleet of anti RR BS Scorpions with some sauce on the side. I can solo-deploy a fleet of 4 to 7 BS/BC/Bombers/T3. I rarely do that due to only having 2 arms and lacking 4 others.

Anyhow up to current events with a little fast forwarding. I joined my new wormhole corp, traversed the 23 jumps to get to the null-sec entrance that was deep in Majesta space to the north, dodging the fleets that were roaming for southern alliance groups. After half a day our old wormhole was set to de-spawn and re-spawn in a new location. I scanned down the new location, set my bookmarks, and took a peak through. Of all the places in the universe of EVE, we happened to get a hole directly in the middle of the Providence war.

There are a few blogs out there that are covering this move to rid the universe of CVA.

Hallan Turrek over @ A merry life and a short one, has a good outlook and resource list in his blog that is covering the Providence events. One notable blog is Resistance is Futile – The Captain’s Log by Prometheus09, who has a great article on the initial invasion into CVA’s space.

Buy anyhow, i was sitting around our new hole and decide to go around the few systems near by and take a look at the damage. Right off the back all i notice are Noir members in local, SBUs all around, and all the CVA stations and towers in reinforced, which when i last checked at lunch today, they only had 4 hours and 12 minutes left. so, at this time or by the time this gets posted, they will be either down, or out of reinforced mode. I saw the Noir Academy leader also in that same system. So i decided to poke around (i do apologize that i did not get any cool pictures for this one, and the ones i did get i will keep secret to protect the locations of the people i have shadowed. :-P ). I scanned down and shadowed all 5 members of Noir that i found in my initial system, getting screen shots of each of their vessels for keepsakes and to see them flying together. I was very happy to get with 2.5 km of some of them while practicing my stalking capabilities. However, i had no intent of shooting on any of them. I would rather assist them in driving out CVA than fight them. I continued on to track down and practice my stealth/probing skills. I was quite happy to not get killed. After a few hours i retreated back to my hole, which should be in a new location when i get off work today.

In retrospect, the Providence area has been decimated. System after system has been sieged, has SBUs, is in reinforced, and not to mention all i see are Noir Pilots or AAA pilots in packs. I did not see many CVA pilots  in the sectors i was in. I will probably continue to poke around Providence as i feel it is helping me hone my Cov-Ops skills, that i will be applying to my Force Recon/Black Ops skill plan.

Best wishes to the Noir team on the wins and steady progress, and best wishes to those in CVA with hopes you may live to play another day and die another day.

Into the Fields and Corporate inactivity woes…

The Hulks and their Orca mother extract a vital resource.

I decided to take sometime these past few days and venture into the asteroid belts and to get some missions done to generate some funds. While i was playing out in the field, i was thinking about the issue with inactivity that my new corporation i just most recently joined has. My last 3 picks for corporations seemed to be very inactive and generally lied about benefits. I can not seem to figure out the cause of this. Is it that i play a lot because i do not watch TV and play computer games as my TV watching time, or these corporations really are not what it was advertised? I mean one of them was an ATLAS aligned alliance. After contemplating the issue for the last 6 hours, i decided that i may need to look for an alternative form of enjoyment within the game, before i call it quits. Yeah i know, i have only been back in the game for a few months and i am thinking about quitting.

Finding a good guild in games such as World of Warcraft, its somewhat easy to see progression, there turn-over, and their track record, using various tools and fan-sites. With EVE, i am still somewhat of a newbie on how to pick the right corporation. I have read resources like  CrazyKinux’s Finding the right corporation in EVE Online. I have also checked out numerous posts on the Alliance and Corporation Recruitment board on the Eve-online forums, but i have yet to move on with attempting to talk to recruiters or even post my application to a new corporation just yet. I like to do everything, and i have characters to fit most roles with proper skills. But this, i am sure will be back for another post for another time.

Our Tengu protector watches vigilantly for trouble.

Now back to my mining adventures; I have been recently stock piling all the minerals i have been mining for the last few days trying to determine if i want to move it into my production group and manufacture things or our right sell it. I’m not sure of what i will do with the millions of minerals of the possible high-sec and some low-sec minerals that i have and am currently amassing.

Until next time.

Things I Like About EVE

Check out the posed question on Dense Veldspar by Ahnog on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 7:13 AM.

What drives people to even play? What makes us really like this game? What makes us get addicted to come online to watch our skills train? These are the questions that came to mind when i was reading Dense Veldspar through Capsuleer on my I-phone at work yesterday. I honestly never really thought about it that hard until i read that statement on the blog. These are my impressions towards the game and the things i like about it..Please remember these are my opinions. So if you have to question the righteousness of a statement, add a “to him,” in front of it. :-)

First off, EVE is more of a simulator for a space odyssey, a social engine of sorts, due to the concepts that drive it and the butterfly effect that can happen within it. We cannot dissuade to the fact that yes it’s basic core makes it a game, but i am trying to look past that. This game is very intriguing to me due to the fact that there is no true end-game.

Generally what drives me in the game is more the social interactions. Over the past decade and the various games i have played, it was about the “end-game” content. For many of those games it was regularly farming, as we called it in the games, a particular or several particular boss/encounters for “phat” loots. Being that most games are scripted to play out a certain way and eventually be overcome, EVE does not have this within its bounds.

The game has several aspects and avenues of play.  Mission Runner, Pirate, Industrial Manufacturer, and Miner to name a few. This is not without the mention of all the other possibilities that lay with Corporations and Alliances, and low-sec/null-sec affairs. Your not just limited to the class and any talents systems or spells or whatever. Within our sandbox players can eventually with, time of course, can be anything they wish to invest the time to train to.

Another major aspect that i find very intriguing about the system is the marketing system. Its mostly player driven apart from the few random things that are seeded by NPCs/CCP. I enjoy having to research the best price to buy low and resale high aspect of the game. I saw a glimpse of this only after having to find a better funding source for selling things. I’m really still a newbie at it.

A very intriguing part of the game is the wormhole/exploration system. I find myself addicted to just flying from system to system scanning down wormholes and taking a peak inside. I have yet to run into a situation where i have been killed. The ability to get locked into a wormhole away from the rest of the galaxy is frightening at times, especially for those who protect their own territory within a wormhole, having to close the wormholes, possibly leaving a friend and important resource suck outside. I look forward to more adventures within this part of the game for sure.

These are just a few things i like about even and that keeps me coming back. Like wise to the other fellow blogs out there, what brings you to eve? what do you like about that keeps you here?
